‘Edinburgh Forever’ recounts the trials and tribulations of a Spanish family’s decision to leave their home town, Vitoria (Basque country), in exchange for a year living in Edinburgh. Miguel, his wife Veronica and their two children, Javier and Loreto, depart northern Spain and immerse themselves fully in Scottish life. Miguel has fond memories from his study days in his youth but it proves hardest for him to adjust. They battle language difficulties, shopping and finding schools for the children – some of it they take in their stride and other things prove more problematic. The ‘jamon’ parcels from friends often arrive at a time when a soothing taste of home is desperately needed. The book will have you laughing and wringing your hands in equal measure.
