Skipness and the World Beyond
Joanna Gordon
After a varied career in Education and Community Development in England and West Africa, followed by a decade of Research in Criminology at the University of Edinburgh, Joanna Gordon (b.1923) has distilled her experience of the Highland birthplace of her mother, Frances Graham of Skipness, and her uncle, Angus Graham, the well-known Scottish antiquary and author of Skipness: Memories of a Highland Estate, into a short, fully illustrated study of Skipness’s connections with a wider world, including that of Dutch-American forbears among the founders of New York.
Joanna Gordon
Joanna Gordon, grand-daughter of the first Graham of Skipness, was educated first at Roedean and then at Newnham College, Cambridge, where she read history. She later gained a Diploma in Education at London University. She has published articles in numerous journals, both in the UK and overseas, including the Review of Scottish Culture and the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. She lives in Cambridge.
