The Purrfect Pawse: A little book to help children pause, stretch and be grateful
Avril McDonald
Tatiana Minina
In The Purrfect Pawse, Avril McDonald returns with some of the colourful, lovable characters from her Feel Brave series to help nurture young children’s physical and mental well-being through a combination of activity and poetry. This new book is split into two parts:The Purrfect Pawse`The Purrfect Pawse’ uses rhythm, rhyme and repetition to encourage children to take a pause from time to time and stretch out and unwind with Catreen the cat. Avril takes a well-known yoga stretching routine and cleverly adapts it for a young audience in order to help teachers and carers incorporate daily doses of relaxed exercise into children’s everyday lives. The beautiful verse that she uses brings it to life with pleasant visual imagery that connects children to the wonder of nature.Stars in the Night`Stars in the Night’ is an enchanting poem that takes children on a magical, starry journey into their minds – where they can think about all of the people, things and places they love, stir them around in a cup and drink them all up like a rich hot chocolate.By presenting the poem in a fun and engaging way, Avril harnesses the power of an effective gratitude exercise that will help children get into a positive mental state – making for a calming circle time session or a soothing bedtime story.
