The Tar Factory
Alan Kelly
Twenty years with North Lanarkshire’s Roads Department has given Coatbridge janitor Alan Kelly plenty of stories to write about. Now, in his first novel, Alan has brought together the stories, the people, the laughter and the grind of his experiences in a Tar Squad.
Reviews of The Tar Factory
Unpretentious, human, moving and funny. Alan Kelly gives us a man with true grit and a real practical morality. Mad Dog protects the underdog but beware those who misuse their power. This deserves to sell more copies than Trainspotting. The Tar Factory is fuckin magic. A surprise hunner quid Giro on a wet Tuesday in February. Des Dillon
Alan Kelly
Alan Kelly only started writing 5 years ago, after joining Des Dillon?s writer?s group. Raised in Coatbridge, Alan worked for twenty years for North Lanarkshire Council?s Roads Department, picking litter, sweeping roads, eventually promoted to tar shovelling, tar raking, tar chipping and tar rolling in a ?Tar Squad?. Now working as a school janitor, Alan has re-married his first wife after successfully battling his alcoholism ? he has been ?dry? for over eleven years.
