The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society
The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS), was founded in 1923 as the Scottish Country Dance Society by Jean Milligan and Ysobel Stewart, who wanted to preserve country dancing as performed in Scotland.
The RSCDS publishes Scottish country dance books, music books and music recordings as well as a biannual magazine for members. It also collects dances from living memory as well as from old (17th – 19th C.) manuscripts and republishes them in a series of books. Today, the catalogue exceeds 200 titles, including music and eBooks.
The RSCDS has around 10,000 members worldwide with a central office located in Edinburgh which includes an extensive Archive of materials related to Scottish country dance and music.
