Seeking Perfection: The Unofficial Guide to Tremors
Jonathan Melville
A behind the scenes look at the making of Tremors and its sequels in the 25th anniversary year
Welcome to Perfection, Nevada.
A throwback to the kind of sci-fi B movies that had long gone out of fashion, Tremors was a box office flop that became a home video phenomenon, spawning multiple sequels and a short-lived TV series.
Seeking Perfection: The Unofficial Guide to Tremors is the first book to go beneath the surface of the Tremors franchise, featuring new interviews with more than 50 cast and crew members, including stars Kevin Bacon and Michael Gross, director Ron Underwood, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, and the monster makers who brought the Graboids to life.
Seeking Perfection also includes:
- Interviews with cast and crew from Tremors 1-5 and the TV series
- Newly-discovered photos from the Tremors set
- Storyboard excerpts
- Commentary on every episode of the TV series
- Exclusive coverage of the special 25th anniversary Tremors screening in Los Angeles
- A look at the 10-year journey from script to screen of the latest sequel, 2015’s Tremors 5: Bloodlines
Seeking Perfection is the ultimate, 100% unofficial, reference guide to Tremors!
Jonathan Melville
As a fan of film and TV for as long as I can remember before becoming a film journalist in my home city of Edinburgh, I’ve long wanted to write a book about subjects I can’t easily read about elsewhere.
Back in 2011 I was commissioned by UK science fiction magazine, SFX, to write a 1200 word article on Tremors (1990), soon followed by a feature on Short Circuit (1986). The link between the two films was S.S. Wilson, the screenwriter who co-created them with his writing partner, Brent Maddock.
Following those articles, and realising the 25th anniversary of Tremors was approaching in 2015, I decided to write the book on the franchise I wanted to read but which nobody else was writing.
So here it is, Seeking Perfection: The Unofficial Guide to Tremors. It may be unauthorised, but it features interviews with more than 50 people involved in the films and TV series, including the creators, cast and the studio executives behind the scenes.
Hopefully other fans will enjoy reading the book, while those with a passing interest in Tremors will discover something about the hard task of bringing films and TV shows to the screen.
Keep watching the ground…
