Arild Stavrum
Arild Stavrum was born in 1972 and made his literary debut with the novel No More Free Kicks (2008), about a footballer at the peak of his career who starts feeling the darker sides of the glamorous life as a star striker. The book earned great reviews and was selected as one of the sports books of the year by the Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter. A skilled media commentator on football matters, Stavrum has also contributed articles to Scottish newspapers. Before turning to writing, he had a long and illustrious career in football. After playing for Norwegian clubs Molde and Stabak, he went to the Swedish club Helsingborg, where he became the top scorer in the Swedish premier division in the 1998 season. In 1999 he joined Aberdeen Football Club, and became the club’s top scorer in the 2000/2001 season, only beaten to the Scottish top scorer title by Celtic star Henke Larsson. He then went to Turkish club Besiktas. After finishing his playing career, he spent time as manager at Molde and Skeid.
