Drawing upon the extensive photographic collection held by Aberdeen City Library & Museums, this new edition presents a pictorial, social and industrial history of the Granite City. The Victoriam Aberdonian, George Washington Wilson, ‘Photographer to the Queen’, produced marvellous views of the city’s emerging granite landscape. Behind this architectural facade, and supporting it, were the city’s industries – the granite trade, engineering, shipbuilding, fishing, and transport – which have also been recorded by Aberdeen’s photographers. This book is a photographic journey down the highways and byways of Aberdeen’s past, when children played in the streets and adults went to the ‘pictures’. “Aberdeen in Old Photographs” will evoke memories for many, and give great pleasure to all who know and love the city, residents and visitors alike.
