Blackburn in Old Photographs
Martin Baggoley
Old Paisley Society
Ellen Farmer
Paisley, Scotland’s largest town, has a rich and colourful history. A powerhouse of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, it was home to some of Scotland’s great industries, particularly weaving and textiles. The renowned Paisley pattern has spread the town’s name around the globe. This new book explores Paisley’s mighty industrial history but also looks at its people at work and play, and explores the town’s great buildings and significant events over more than a century of change.
Martin Baggoley
The Old Paisley Society was created in 1977 to inform local people about the town’s local history and architecture. In 1983 it purchased a row of millworkers’ houses and two years later a weaver’s cottage which it restored and opened as a museum. Ellen Farmer is the society’s president and has received the MBE for her services to local history in Paisley.
