Rosslyn Chapel: An Icon Through the Ages
Angelo Maggi
The mysterious and charismatic Rosslyn Chapel has captured the imagination of the public since it was built in the 15th century with visitors continuing to flock to this beautiful building, intrigued by the myths and romance that surround it. Angelo Maggi has written a fascinating and accessible account of the chapel’s history and architecture, as well as looking at its reputation as an icon of spirituality. Thoroughly researched, the narrative uses first-hand sources from throughout its history, highlighting its changing status over the years. It has gone from a place of prayer to a ruin during the Reformation, through its controversial reconstruction in the 19th century, and is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in Scotland. This book is a visual treat with stunning images of the chapel and its many intricate carvings. It features many depictions of the chapel from artists as diverse as Daguerre and Ruskin and features the work of major early photographers such as Hill and Adamson.
