Das Schottlandbuch
Hans-Walter Arends
After a decade of living and working in the Edinburgh Hans-Walter Arends wants to provide the best resource for German-speaking visitors in Scotland. By using his personal viewpoint and sharing the knowledge of the true insider, as well as more conventional guidebook contents, Das Scottlandbuch tells the readers all that is worth knowing about Scotland. Separated by region, Das Schottlandbuch gives details on Scottish culture, history, politics and wildlife alongside practical information such as time table and maps. There is more to Scotland than monster Nessie and the kilt, even though the reader won’t be left in the dark about either. With no other competing guidebook to Scotland in German published from Scotland, this is a unique resource for all German-speakers.
Reviews of Das Schottlandbuch
`Arends takes a critical but very loyal look … and readers will find an exciting, interesting and personal view on Scotland that few official publications can deliver.' HISTORIC SCOTLAND MAGAZINE
Hans-Walter Arends
Hans-Walter Arends is an experienced tour guide and member of the Scottish tourist Guides Association. A native German he has lived in Edinburgh since 1992. Early in his career as a tour guide he discovered a lack of background information for German-speaking visitors to Scotland. This resulted in his production of a small Scotland booklet, which has been extended several times into newest edition of the guidebook now known as Das Schottlandbuch. Arends aims to make Scotland more accessible to German-speakers using the knowledge and experience he has gained over the last 16 years and particularly seeks to promote German-language tourism in Scotland.
