The Light Fantastic: Skye Folk and Fantasies
Rhona Rauszer
The stories collected here make up Rhona’s biography, an oral narrative composed and recorded by her over a period of twelve years (1992-2004). The sound recordings were transcribed by friends who live near her on Skye. Unlike the author’s first collection, Consider an Island, the present work is composed of traditional stories interweaved with the main autobiographical narrative. The inspiration for this collection is a living tree on the waterfront of Broadford Bay at the foot of Beinn na Caillich in South Skye, a native ash tree that is a spiritual landmark in Rhona’s daily walks.
Rhona Rauszer
Rhona Rauszer (nee Mackinnon) spent the summers of her childhood in Skye. She served in the WRNS throughout the war, and performed with ENSA in France and Germany. She became a professional actress and made numerous contributions to BBC Scottish Home Service radio from 1938 to 1968. In 1968 she moved permanently to Skye to concentrate on her writing and painting.
