404 Ink

404 Ink is an alternative book publisher based in Edinburgh. Established in mid 2016 we sought to provide an alternative literary programme for the Scottish reader market and beyond by publishing unusual fiction, non-fiction, poetry and comics in English, Scots and Scottish Gaelic.

Our first book publication, Nasty Women, featuring essays from Chitra Ramaswamy, Nadine Aisha Jassat and Kaite Welsh met international acclaim and attention through the highly successful Kickstarter campaign in January 2017 which saw the support of Margaret Atwood, Louise O’Neill, Nikesh Shukla and numerous other influential figures across the industry. We have also published bestselling author Chris McQueer as well as the cult classic duo of Victor and Barry, played by Alan Cummings and Forbes Masson.

We aim to broaden our eclectic list by publishing contemporary works from new and established writers both locally and internationally. In publishing voices belonging to authors we admire and wish to champion, we seek to bring a fresh approach to publishing within Scotland and the UK.
