When One Day Soon I Write
Roger Victor Crawley
A selection of personal poetry. The poems were discovered amongst Roger’s files and relate to his life, which took him from rural Surrey to Northumberland, Canada, Scotland, The Yorkshire Dales, Wales, Herefordshire and Cumbria. The earliest poems were written in the late 1960s and they are chronologically printed, ending with the last poem dated 2016.
Roger Victor Crawley
Roger Victor Crawley (1944 – 2016) was brought up on the North Downs in Surry in a council house backing on to an oak woodland. He was state educated. He trained as a teacher at Winchester College and gained a Degree in Geography at Winnipeg University. He further went on to gain his Masters Degree in Landscape Ecology, Maintenance and Design at London University; his final academic achievement was to become a Doctor of Philosophy, “A Study into the Character and Reputation of Christopher Marlowe” which was gained at Lancaster University.Throughout his life Roger did not have interests or hobbies; he had obsessions. A testimony to these passions were his 800 books, over 350 records, tapes etc and endless files dating back over fifty years, recording all his research studies for his academic work, conservation campaigns, his novel, his poetry and over his later years his epilepsy.
