Welly Boot Broth
By Mark Mechan
Broth doesn’t grow on trees … but maybe it grows in gardens.
Elliot loves a good bowl of soup, but his Dad wonders if there is a healthier way other than straight from a tin.
Setting out to grow his own broth – with a little help from his brother, sister, Mum and Dad – Elliot discovers that a garden is home to more than just a vegetable plot … the wildlife wants to have its say, too. Elliot finds out that growing vegetables takes time and patience – but it only takes a moment to dream up some fun and adventures.
Mark Mechan
Mark Mechan’s first book TUMSHIE – The Forgotten Halloween Turnip Lantern was published in 2020 (Waverley Books). This was a nostalgic look at Halloween in Scotland. The new book is more contemporary and touches on sustainability, organic gardening, organic vegetarian food, where our food comes from, growing your own food, and awareness about how to grow food.
Author and illustrator Mark Mechan trained at Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.
His career as a graphic artist has spanned over 20 years. He worked in the team that created the Maw Broon’s cookery series, and Beano and Dandy licensed products. Mark’s books are inspired by his experiences as a dad of three children.
